Tanzanian musician and activist Abby Chams says she only uses a washing machine.
Tanzanian singer and social activist Abigail Chamungwana, popularly known as Abby Chams, has revealed that she has never washed clothes by hand.
Speaking during a live interview on Clouds FM, Chams said that at home, they use a washing machine and that she wouldn’t hand-wash even if her partner asked her to.
She explained, “Kufua nafua kweli ila nyumbani tunatumia machine kwa hivyo siwezi kufua na mikono, lakini nadhani kwamba nikijaribu nitaweza labda.”
(“I do wash clothes, but at home we use a machine, so I can’t wash by hand, though I think I might be able to if I tried.”)
Chams added that if a partner insisted on washing clothes by hand, she would simply buy a washing machine for them instead. “Ikiwa ni lazima na atasisitiza nifanye hivyo, basi itanilazimu nimnunulie machine,” she said.
The young singer also confessed that while she knows how to cook several meals, she doesn’t know how to make ugali, Tanzania’s common staple dish.
At only 20 years old, Abby Chams serves as a UNICEF youth advocate, focusing on mental health and gender equality. She also runs a youth program called “Teen Talks with Abby Chams,” which provides a platform for young people to talk about mental health challenges.
Her statements during the interview caused mixed reactions online, especially after she disclosed that she has never been in a romantic relationship or had any sexual experience.
Abby Chams continues to make headlines for her honesty and advocacy work, proving that she’s not only a talented artist but also a strong voice for youth empowerment in Tanzania.
