President Yoweri Museveni denies reports that he plans to retire.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has rejected reports suggesting he intends to retire from politics, declaring that he will remain in the race for as long as Ugandans continue to support him at the ballot.
“As long as Ugandans continue to vote for me, I will continue to run because they trust me,” Museveni said.
The President dismissed viral videos claiming he was preparing to step down, insisting they had been manipulated.
“I haven’t said this is the last time I am vying. Those videos are misleading,” he added.
Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986, has faced growing criticism over his extended stay in power. His latest statement signals no plans to hand over the reins any time soon, a move that could deepen succession debates within the country.
Observers say the remarks may especially resonate with Uganda’s younger population, many of whom are pushing for political change and new leadership.
