Nicolas Jackson set for Bayern Munich move in deal worth over £70m.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich have finally agreed on improved terms for Nicolas Jackson’s transfer. The Senegal striker, who joined the Blues from Villarreal in 2023, will leave Stamford Bridge on loan for £14.3m, with Bayern required to make the deal permanent for £56.2m once he makes a set number of appearances.
The agreement pushes the total value of the deal beyond £70m, with Jackson already lined up for a five-year contract in Munich.
The move almost collapsed when Chelsea briefly pulled Jackson back following Liam Delap’s injury during their Premier League win over Fulham. Delap is expected to be out for six to eight weeks, forcing the club to reshuffle their attacking plans.
In response, Chelsea recalled young striker Marc Guiu from Sunderland, where he had been on loan. The 19-year-old managed one goal in limited minutes, but now steps in to provide backup for Joao Pedro.
Jackson had been a regular starter, but disciplinary issues and poor form cost him the manager’s trust. He was sent off twice last season, including a red card only four minutes after coming on in the Club World Cup defeat to Flamengo.
Despite manager Enzo Maresca once calling him the “perfect number nine,” Jackson’s relationship with the club hierarchy deteriorated, pushing him to seek a move away.
To strengthen their squad, Chelsea moved for Argentina forward Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton. The 20-year-old joins on loan for £2m after spending last season at Leicester City, where he scored six goals.
Chelsea beat Leeds United to secure the deal, helped by staff members who previously worked at Brighton.
Meanwhile, another Argentine addition came earlier in the summer as Alejandro Garnacho arrived from Manchester United for £40m. Brighton’s Julio Enciso is also expected to head to Chelsea’s partner club Strasbourg before making his way to Stamford Bridge later.
Jackson could reunite with his former teammates sooner than expected. Bayern Munich are scheduled to face Chelsea on September 17 in the Champions League, and UEFA rules allow loanees to play against their parent clubs.
