A man in Njiru sub-county is awaiting sentencing after he admitted to obstructing police officers who had found him selling illicit alcohol.

Raphael Njoroge admitted he obstructed police officers Cosmas Korir and  Moses Ngari while executing their duties.

Njoroge, however, denied possessing 20 litres of illegal alcohol.

He tried to hide the liquor but police arrested him, and arraigned him in court.

When he was presented before Makadara Chief Magistrate Beatrice Kimemia, he pleaded guilty to the charge of obstructing the police but denied selling chang’aa, saying he was a client who was caught in the circumstances.

“I was drinking but I was not selling. The owner of the bar ran away when he saw police,” he said.

Elsewhere, a woman from Mukuru Kwa Reuben has admitted in court to assaulting a motorbike rider in a case of mistaken identity.

Eugenia Kiamutu appeared before a Nairobi court where she pleaded guilty to injuring Kizito Musingi on August 5. Musingi said he was riding his motorbike when Kiamutu stopped him.

Believing she needed transport, he pulled over, only for her to demand chama contributions from him.

The complainant told the court he was shocked by the demand, saying he had never met Kiamutu before and owed her nothing. It was then that she allegedly picked up a piece of firewood from her stall and struck him on the left eye.

Kiamutu has admitted to the charge and will remain in custody until this Friday, when the court is expected to deliver its verdict
