Harambee Stars earned KSh 58M for reaching CHAN 2024 quarterfinals.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has confirmed that the federation is yet to finalize the distribution of the KSh 58 million prize money awarded to Harambee Stars for reaching the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

He explained that while CAF will release the funds, FKF must first handle its financial obligations.

According to Mohammed, the federation faces fines of about KSh 13 million for security breaches during the tournament. One of the cases is still under appeal. FKF has a 60-day deadline to clear these penalties.

On player payments, the FKF boss noted that most allowances have already been settled, with only a few players waiting for their balances.

In addition, the team has already received KSh 232 million in bonuses from President William Ruto as rewards for their performance in the competition.

The delay in releasing the CAF prize money has led to inquiries from the players. Mohammed assured them that the matter will be resolved once fines are settled and CAF confirms disbursement.

“The federation remains committed to ensuring fair compensation for the players while responsibly managing its financial responsibilities,” he said.

FKF says its cautious approach is meant to strike a balance between rewarding players and maintaining accountability in its finances. The goal, Mohammed stressed, is to ensure public and CAF funds are handled prudently.
