DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala explains why top opposition figures missed Rigathi Gachagua’s JKIA welcome.
Malala told the media on Friday from Gachagua’s Karen residence that the absence of key opposition leaders at JKIA was planned for safety reasons.
“We had information about plans to block us on Mombasa Road. To avoid conflict, the principals chose to meet supporters later at the rally,” Malala explained.
He emphasised that the airport reception was mainly a DCP affair, while the rally was a joint opposition event.
Despite attempts by rivals to stir division, Malala reassured supporters that the alliance remains strong and united.
“I know the other side wishes to see cracks in our coalition, but we are ready to adapt to intimidation. Our leaders even planned to attend the Harambee Stars match but faced heavy police deployment,” he said.
Later in the evening, Kalonzo Musyoka visited Gachagua at his Karen home, reinforcing unity. The leaders, joined by others in the coalition, watched Kenya’s CHAN 2024 quarter-final match against Madagascar together.
Malala said the day’s events showed the coalition’s ability to respond to threats while keeping its alliance intact.
The opposition now sends a clear message: no intimidation will break their unity, and they remain focused on joint activities and national engagement.
