A gang raided a CRBC site on Southern Bypass, Lang’ata, at dawn on July 28.

Police in Nairobi are probing a robbery at a sewerage construction site run by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) along the busy Southern Bypass in Lang’ata. The incident, which happened early on Sunday, July 28, has left authorities on high alert.

Witness accounts and police reports indicate that a group of armed thugs invaded the area at dawn. They were reportedly armed with pangas and swiftly overpowered the night guards on duty.

After taking control, the suspects tied the guards’ hands and feet before locking them in a room. The gang then proceeded to strip down some of the heavy machinery at the site, including parked excavators and a standby generator.

The exact value of the stolen items is yet to be disclosed, but police say the parts were vital and likely targeted for black market resale or illegal use.

Officers from Lang’ata Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and sealed it off for forensic inspection. Investigators suspect the group is part of a larger criminal network that has been targeting construction areas across the capital.

No injuries were reported, and the guards are now aiding detectives with useful leads.

This incident adds to a rising trend of equipment theft at construction sites in Nairobi. Authorities are urging firms, especially those operating in remote or poorly lit zones, to boost their security systems, including CCTV, alarms, and increased patrols.
