DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua accuses Raila Odinga of abandoning youth protestors
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of betraying the Gen Z movement by siding with President William Ruto.
Speaking to Kenyans in the United States, Gachagua warned that Raila’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza regime was a political decoy meant to suppress public dissent.
“Raila Odinga has abandoned the cause,” he declared. “He is being used to pacify dissent, but Ruto has no intention of implementing the NADCO report. He told me himself—it’s just a delay tactic.”
Now at the helm of the newly launched Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Gachagua condemned the Kenya Kwanza administration for worsening the economy, neglecting the youth, and violating human rights.
He described the regime as corrupt and manipulative, accusing it of using Parliament to stall NADCO reforms while co-opting key opposition figures.
“By the time William Ruto is done with Raila, he’ll be politically irrelevant. This union will not serve the people. It’s a trap,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua also referenced the internal tensions within ODM triggered by remarks from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. He claimed the conflict was being orchestrated to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Gachagua, the Ruto-Raila handshake is an elitist alliance that disregards the struggles of ordinary Kenyans.
Gachagua’s sharp criticism signals his return to the political stage as a vocal opposition figure, aiming to rally disillusioned youth and diaspora Kenyans against the current political alignment between Ruto and Raila.
