TSC raises alarm over fake employment and registration letters sold to desperate teachers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has sounded the alarm over a growing scam involving fake employment and registration letters targeting job-seeking teachers. According to the commission, the fraudulent activity is being fueled by individuals posing as TSC agents, with some linked to politicians.
TSC stated that these letters are not genuine and should be ignored. The warning comes amid reports that some Members of Parliament are allegedly involved in selling these letters to desperate applicants for as much as Ksh150,000 to Ksh200,000.
“We wish to alert all aspiring teachers and members of the public about the growing threat posed by conmen purporting to sell TSC employment letters and registration papers. Please be warned that these papers are fake,” said TSC.
Bryan Liseche, a former parliamentary aspirant from Lugari, directly accused current MP Nabii Nabwera of distributing around 20 TSC appointment letters in exchange for bribes and alleged personal favours from female candidates.
Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku acknowledged the issue and emphasised that President William Ruto had already directed that all government hiring processes be based purely on merit.
“If politicians are indeed distributing job letters, the practice must stop immediately,” Ruku warned.
Economic advisor Moses Kuria also condemned the practice of politicians handing out TSC letters at public functions, calling it both “shameful and dangerous.” KNUT boss Collins Oyuu added his voice, urging the commission to guard its independence and resist political pressure.
To protect the integrity of the process, TSC reminded Kenyans that all recruitment is done transparently through its official online portals: www.tsc.go.ke , www.teachersonline.go.ke www.hrmis.tsc.go.ke
Key guidelines include: No payment is required for the TSC job placement. Applications must be made online only. Only registered teachers (under Section 23 of the TSC Act, 2012) can applyShortlisted candidates will undergo document verification at county panelsSuccessful applicants receive official appointment letters from TSC headquartersFailure to report within the given timeframe leads to automatic cancellation
TSC encourages the public to report any suspicious individuals or activities to local law enforcement or directly to the commission.
