Wiese Suspended for Four Matches Due to Headbutt

Jasper Wiese, South Africa’s No. 8, has been handed a four-match suspension by World Rugby following an incident where he head-butted Italy’s prop Danilo Fischetti during last weekend’s Test match in Gqeberha.

The 29-year-old loose forward will be unavailable for several important matches.

Wiese is set to miss the one-off Test against Georgia in Mbombela on Saturday, along with three Rugby Championship games: two home fixtures against Australia and an away match against New Zealand in Auckland.

He is anticipated to make his return for the Springboks’ second match against the All Blacks in Wellington on September 13.

After that, the Springboks will complete their Rugby Championship campaign with two encounters against Argentina before heading to Europe in November, where they are scheduled to compete against France, Italy, Ireland, and Wales.

Just 22 minutes into the second Test versus Italy, Wiese was issued a red card while South Africa was leading by ten points. Despite being down a player early in the game, the reigning Rugby World Cup champions achieved a resounding victory with a score of 45-0.

His younger brother, Cobus Wiese, who made his Test debut last Saturday, will take over his position for the upcoming match against Georgia.

Prior to this season, Jasper Wiese played for both the Cheetahs and Leicester Tigers before joining Japanese club Urayasu D-Rocks last year.
