Collins Kibet, grandson of late President Daniel Moi, was jailed for contempt of court.

Collins Kibet, the grandson of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, has been sent back to jail after defying court orders to ensure his two children are enrolled in school. The court found him guilty of contempt, accusing him of deliberately ignoring his parental obligations.

This is not the first time Kibet has been jailed over the same issue. In September 2024, he was sentenced to seven days in jail for failing to pay school fees for the same children. His ex-wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, has been fighting a drawn-out legal battle to get him to take responsibility.

“Despite being located and brought to the police station, our attempts to reach an out-of-court settlement collapsed,” said her lawyer, Elizabeth Wangari.

Kibet’s lawyers argued he is financially strained and blamed ongoing inheritance battles over the estates of his father, Jonathan Moi, and his grandfather, the late President Moi.

“Our client is not running away from responsibility,” his legal team stated. “But he cannot genuinely meet the high demands. The amount requested is allegedly in the millions.”

They further claimed Kibet had not been properly served with a court summons before his arrest.

The case highlights the personal struggles within the influential Moi family and raises broader concerns on child support enforcement and accountability, even among high-profile individuals.
