Axel Tuanzebe has taken legal action against Manchester United.
Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has sued his old club, claiming they gave him negligent medical advice that affected his career.
The 27-year-old filed the case in the High Court last week. Though the exact injury in question remains unclear, reports say the incident dates back to July 2022, and the claim could exceed £1 million.
Tuanzebe, once seen as a future United star, spent 195 days sidelined during his final season. He was later loaned to Stoke City in early 2023, where he only featured in five games.
The defender’s final outing in a United shirt came in the 2021 Europa League final against Villarreal, where he scored in the penalty shootout. United lost 11-10 in the dramatic finish.
Having joined United’s academy at just eight years old, Tuanzebe rose through the ranks and captained the side at every youth level. He made 37 first-team appearances and spent time on loan at Aston Villa (three times) and Napoli before eventually departing.
After leaving as a free agent in 2023, he signed with Ipswich before his most recent move to Burnley earlier this month.
Both Manchester United and Tuanzebe’s legal team, Simons Muirhead Burton, declined to comment on the case when approached by BBC Sport.
The case is likely to draw more attention in the coming weeks, especially as it involves player welfare, medical ethics, and responsibility in top-flight football.
