Barcelona star Lamine Yamal faces backlash after claims of discrimination at his birthday party

Spanish teenage football sensation Lamine Yamal is at the centre of a growing storm after his 18th birthday party drew accusations of discrimination and exploitation. Reports claim that some of the event’s activities demeaned people with disabilities and objectified women, sparking public anger and official concern.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the event, attended by around 200 guests including Yamal’s teammates and close friends, was mafia-themed and featured performances involving individuals with Dwarfism. In addition, a model named Claudio Calvo claimed that 12 women were selected and paid to attend the party based specifically on their breast size.

These revelations have triggered heavy criticism, especially from advocacy groups like ADEE, which champions the rights of people with Dwarfism. The organisation has threatened to pursue legal action, calling the alleged acts dehumanising.

Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights confirmed that a formal investigation has been requested by Jesús Martín, the General Director of Disability. Martín stressed the need for accountability, regardless of status or fame.

“We are concerned that people with money, people with power, believe themselves to be unpunished. The law is for everyone, for the humble and the powerful.”

The incident arrives at a critical moment for Yamal, who has become one of the most promising young players in European football. With millions of fans online and a growing influence both on and off the pitch, his public image could suffer lasting damage if the allegations are confirmed.

If found guilty under Spain’s anti-discrimination and disability rights laws, Yamal could face a fine of up to €1 million.
