Diana Marua posted a tribute after the Gen Z protests had ended

June 26, 2025 – Kenyan influencer Diana Marua is trending, not for her usual family vlogs or lifestyle content, but for a post many say came too little, too late.

She shared a touching message remembering the victims of the deadly June 25, 2024, protests, but only after the 2025 Gen Z memorial demos had wrapped up.

“Where Were You Earlier?” – Kenyans Ask

Diana’s post included a photo of the Kenyan flag and a sombre caption:

“Our hearts go out to the families we lost on a day like this last year… This dark cloud above us shall pass.”

But Kenyans weren’t buying it. Many on social media called her out for staying silent when the streets were hot, only to post once the dust had settled.

This isn’t the first time Diana and her husband, Bahati, have been criticised for dodging sensitive topics.

During the original protests in 2024, Diana explained through a hospital-bed video that she was unwell, yet netizens still felt she and Bahati avoided using their platforms to support Gen Z voices.

The couple’s neutral approach has repeatedly drawn disappointment from young fans, especially during times of national crisis.

“Influencers must pick a side when it counts,” one post read. Another added, “Posting after everything is done helps no one. It just looks performative.”

As conversations around celebrity silence grow louder, Diana’s post has become a symbol of missed opportunities to stand with the people in real time.

Whether this latest backlash will change how public figures engage with civic matters remains to be seen, but for many Kenyans, silence is no longer neutral.
