A wave of anger and concern has erupted online after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko shared a disturbing video showing a group of Kenyans allegedly stranded in Saudi Arabia for more than a month under harsh and inhumane conditions.
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, has sparked nationwide outrage, with many Kenyans demanding urgent government intervention to bring the affected citizens back home.
In the video, a woman believed to be the group’s spokesperson narrates the difficult situation they are going through while stranded in Saudi Arabia.
She claims that the Kenyans have been living in extremely poor conditions, sleeping on the floor in a closed room with little or no access to basic necessities such as food, clean drinking water, and sanitary pads.
According to her, days often pass without meals, leaving them weak, stressed, and hopeless.
The woman explains that their movement is restricted, with doors reportedly kept closed most of the time, making their situation even more unbearable.
She says the lack of food and water has caused serious suffering, especially among women, adding that accessing sanitary towels has become a major challenge.
Her emotional plea in the video highlights the desperation and fear the group is experiencing while far away from home.
The video has triggered strong reactions from Kenyans online, many of whom expressed shock and anger over the treatment of their fellow citizens abroad.
Social media users have questioned how such a situation could persist for weeks without action, while others criticized recruitment agencies and employers accused of exploiting vulnerable job seekers.
Many netizens called on the Kenyan government, especially the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, to act immediately and rescue the stranded citizens.
