Uhuru cautions Jubilee officials against attacking Mt. Kenya leaders, including Rigathi Gachagua. He says disrespectful behaviour will lead to dismissal from the party

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has cautioned Jubilee Party leaders against engaging in politics that undermine or insult Mt. Kenya leaders. Speaking during a grassroots leaders’ meeting in Murang’a on Friday, Uhuru said that politics should be conducted with dignity and mutual respect.

He noted that some individuals claiming to defend the party have resorted to attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders on social media, calling the behaviour unacceptable.

“Sometimes I see people online pretending to support the party by insulting Rigathi Gachagua and others. I do not want that nonsense at my party. Politics must be done respectfully,” Uhuru said.

He warned that any leader who continues with such conduct will face disciplinary action, including possible expulsion.

Gachagua, who previously served as Deputy President before being impeached, has risen to be a significant political voice in the Mt. Kenya region. Through his DCP Party, he has steadily built influence among local leaders and supporters.

The former DP is also known for the ‘wantam’ slogan, which calls for limiting President William Ruto to one term. Despite past criticism of Uhuru’s administration, Gachagua has recently apologised and aligned himself politically with Uhuru, signalling a shift in Mt. Kenya’s political scene.

Uhuru reminded leaders that Jubilee is not a regional outfit but a national party. He highlighted that during his administration, development projects were planned to benefit all Kenyans.

“Jubilee has always held the nation’s interests at heart. We are not a tribal party,” he said.

He also reflected on his 2018 handshake with Raila Odinga, stating that it aimed to calm political tensions and move the country forward.

The former president urged party leaders to work closely with grassroots representatives instead of making decisions alone. He emphasised training young leaders to take up future roles and reduce divisive politics.

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i attended the meeting, which focused on reorganising the party and building stronger structures across the country.

This meeting comes months after Uhuru regained control of Jubilee following a dispute involving Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege. A court ruling restored Uhuru’s leadership, reaffirming his central role in shaping the party’s future direction.
