Two million pilgrims complete the Hajj: On the second day of Eid al-Adha, Muslim devotees prepare for the farewell circumambulation and perform a symbolic stoning of the devil.

Around 2 million pilgrims in Saudi Arabia began the final leg of the Hajj pilgrimage on Saturday by performing the symbolic stoning of the devil in the Mina ceremony.

They then finished their journey with a farewell circumambulation at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Early pilgrim groups reached the Jamarat complex in Mina and carried out the stoning ceremony, according to live local media coverage by Anadolu and Saudi state television Al-Ekhbariya.

The Saudi Interior Ministry encouraged pilgrims to adhere to the specified pathways when travelling to and from the Jamarat complex in a statement released on Saturday.

According to data released by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics, 1,673,230 people performed the Hajj in the Islamic calendar year of 1446 AH, including 1,506,576 foreign visitors.

There are 166,654 domestic pilgrims, who are Saudi nationals and residents.

More than 1.8 million Muslims from 200 different nations made the Hajj last year.

The Hajj pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam, which every Muslim must do at least once if they can afford it.

Many rituals are performed during the Hajj to commemorate the hardships faced by the Prophet Abraham and his family and to demonstrate the core ideas of Islam.
