Ex-Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey was charged with 5 rape counts and 1 sexual assault.
Former Arsenal and Ghana international Thomas Partey is facing serious legal trouble after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, involving three different women. The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, according to a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police.
Two of the rape charges are linked to one woman, three more relate to a second complainant, and the sexual assault charge involves a third woman. Police say the investigation began in February 2022, after receiving a rape complaint.
Party Maintains His Innocence
Partey, who is 32 years old and resides in Hertfordshire, has denied all the accusations. Through his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, he said he has cooperated fully with police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) during the three-year investigation.
“He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” Wiltshire said in a statement.
Partey’s contract with Arsenal officially ended on June 30, 2025, after four seasons at the club. Arsenal released a short statement confirming his departure, stating it could not comment further due to the ongoing legal case.
Both the Football Association (FA) and the Premier League declined to issue any statements, citing the sensitivity of the legal proceedings.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is handling the case, said that the police are focused on supporting the women involved. He also urged anyone with more information to contact the investigation team via CIT@met.police.uk.
Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, where the legal process will begin formally.
Partey joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for £45.3 million, going on to make 130 appearances for the club and scoring 9 goals. In his final season, he made 35 league appearances, scoring four times and helping Arsenal finish second in the Premier League.
He also featured in 12 Champions League games, reaching the semi-finals with Arsenal before they were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain.
Partey has represented the Ghana national team more than 50 times and played in the World Cup qualification matches earlier this year.
