Thocco Katimba Accused of Failing to Pay for Mercedes Benz in 2011
In 2011, Thocco Katimba, a well-known gospel musician behind the hit Ndilibenanu Mawu, faced accusations from a Lilongwe car dealer for not paying for a Mercedes Benz Compressor he was using. The vehicle was provided by F & F Business Consultants, a company that deals specifically in Mercedes Benz cars.
Both the Malapa dealership and F & F Business Consultants confirmed that Katimba had not completed the purchase of the Mercedes Benz. Francis Mpemba, executive director of F & F Business Consultants, revealed that they were unaware the car had been confiscated in Mchinji due to Katimba’s debts to another person. They only found out through a tip-off from well-wishers.
Unsettled Payment and Bounced Cheque
Katimba had initially paid K180,000 out of the K2.6 million price for the car. However, when he attempted to pay the remaining K2.4 million, the cheque he issued bounced at Lilongwe Standard Bank. Mpemba expressed disappointment, explaining that despite their trust in Katimba as a gospel musician, he had been playing “hide and seek” regarding the payment.
Car Confiscation and Rental Fee Decision
After finally meeting Katimba in Lilongwe, the dealers persuaded him to show where the confiscated car had been taken. Given the situation, Mpemba stated that the K180,000 paid by Katimba would now be considered as a rental fee for the period he had the vehicle, instead of part of the purchase.
This story highlights how Thocco Katimba faced accusations of attempting to dodge payment for a high-end vehicle, leading to complications for the Lilongwe car dealership.
