Teacher Arrested in East London for Human Trafficking and Running a Brothel
A 52-year-old teacher, Vuyokazi Gana in south africa was arrested by the Hawks’ East London Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit on 15 October 2025.
Her arrest follows a detailed investigation into allegations of human trafficking and prostitution involving young women recruited from the former Transkei region.
According to the Hawks, the investigation began in September 2023 and revealed that Gana had allegedly been recruiting young women from Qumbu, Mthatha, and Ngqeleni.
The victims were reportedly transported to East London, where they were kept at her residence and forced into prostitution.
It is alleged that the victims engaged in sexual activities with clients who paid for their services.
Gana is said to have benefited financially by charging accommodation fees ranging from R250 to R300 per night, and she either collected the money herself or received it through her bank account.
She was arrested at her workplace in East London and has since been charged with human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and running a brothel.
Gana appeared before the East London Magistrate’s Court on 16 October 2025.
The case has been postponed to 23 October 2025 for a formal bail application.
