Shatta Wale's Lamborghini Seized in Crime Probe Linked to US Fraud Case

Ghanaian artist Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini seized by authorities

Ghanaian authorities have taken hold of a luxury Lamborghini Urus allegedly tied to the proceeds of crime linked to convicted fraudster Nana Kwabena Amuah. The seizure follows a formal request from the United States.

Amuah, currently serving a 7-year sentence in the US for a multi-million dollar fraud scheme, had the 2019 Lamborghini flagged for recovery. But the car had found its way into the hands of Ghanaian music star Shatta Wale—who insists he has nothing to do with Amuah.

“I’m a third-party owner. I don’t know who shipped it into the country,” Wale said, distancing himself from any fraudulent links.

Shatta Wale, known globally for his collaboration with Beyoncé on Already, was visibly angry after Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officers stormed his home with firearms during the recovery mission.

“Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for,” he posted online, accusing EOCO’s CEO of publicly humiliating him.

According to Wale, he bought the flashy yellow Lamborghini for $150,000 and even presented all the required documents to the officials. Authorities, however, insisted that the seizure was conducted civilly and by safety procedures.

“It is standard protocol for asset recovery officers to be armed during operations,” EOCO stated.

Shatta Wale later complied and personally handed over the car, which is now held in EOCO custody.

The US FBI and Justice Department are expected to issue a formal request for the car’s return as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution order. Court documents show that Amuah and his network defrauded nearly 70 public and private organisations by posing as vendors and rerouting funds into fake accounts under shell companies.

In 2023, Amuah was handed an 86-month prison sentence, and the Lamborghini was listed among the assets to be recovered.
