Safaricom has announced the last five KES 1 million winners under its Shangwe @25 promotion. The campaign has produced 25 millionaires from different parts of the country
Safaricom has officially revealed the final five winners of KES 1 million each under its Shangwe @25 nationwide consumer campaign, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 25 Kenyans.
The latest winners are Quinter Akinyi Wanyama from Bungoma, Sheila Cherotich from Bomet, Fidel Mwendwa from Kitui, Geoffrey Mawira from Meru, and Grace Nyiva from Uthiru in Nairobi. They join 20 others who had earlier received the life-changing reward during the campaign.
In addition to the personal cash prize, each of the five winners received an extra KES 250,000 dedicated to a community project. Safaricom says this approach was meant to ensure that the benefits go beyond individuals and reach families, groups, and local projects across the country.
Through these initiatives, the promotion has supported schools, health centres, youth groups, traders, and vulnerable communities.
The Shangwe @25 campaign reached millions of Kenyans, with more than five million customers winning different prizes during the promotion period. The total value of rewards issued stood at KES 250 million.
Prizes ranged from cash rewards to electronics, household items, shopping vouchers, livestock, and other everyday gifts, reflecting Safaricom’s effort to include customers from all walks of life.
Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa thanked customers for their loyalty and participation, noting that the promotion had a strong impact across the country.
He said the campaign demonstrated Safaricom’s long-term commitment to empowering customers and supporting communities that have grown with the company over the past 25 years.
One of the final winners, 23-year-old Grace Nyiva from Uthiru, Nairobi, described the win as a turning point in her life. A single mother, Grace supports her child by selling smokies and sausages while also working as a cleaner at a local club.
She plans to invest the money in education, support her family, and start a business. For her community project, Grace has set aside KES 250,000 to help unemployed youth by providing salon and car wash equipment, and to reduce drug and alcohol abuse.
In Bungoma County, Quinter Akinyi Wanyama, a mother of five, received her KES 1 million cheque after initially doubting the call that informed her of the win.
She runs a welding business with her husband and plans to expand the workshop, buy new equipment, and pay school fees for her children. Her community contribution will support Mahanga PEFA School through the purchase of lockers, chairs, and a printer.
Twenty-one-year-old Sheila Cherotich from Bomet works as a sales agent selling M-KOPA phones. The young mother said the prize has opened doors she never thought possible.
She intends to buy land, build a house for her mother, start a clothing and footwear business, and support her brother’s education. Her community project will focus on improving water access at Chebunyo Health Centre by installing water tanks.
In Kitui County, 25-year-old mechanic Fidel Mwendwa Kavinya said the win came as a complete surprise. Having grown up as an orphan, he plans to use the money to open his own workshop and become financially independent.
Touched by his background, Fidel has committed his KES 250,000 community fund to support Timboni Tiva Children’s Home, aiming to improve the lives of vulnerable children in the area.
From Meru County, 52-year-old Geoffrey Mawira Muguongo, a cobbler and barber living with a disability, plans to expand his workshop and purchase shoe-making equipment.
He hopes to create job opportunities for other people living with disabilities. His community project will support Mujwa traders through the purchase of tents for hire, helping traders earn income during events.
Beyond individual winners, Safaricom also rewarded six enterprise customers with stock worth KES 250,000 each to boost their operations. Three other business owners received Tuk-Tuk pickups to improve the transport and delivery of goods.
Safaricom says these efforts were aimed at strengthening small businesses and supporting long-term economic growth.
The Shangwe @25 promotion, launched in October 2025, marked Safaricom’s 25 years of service and closed with a strong message of shared success, community upliftment, and nationwide impact.
