Moment of silence for Diogo Jota before the match.

The match began on a sombre note as players and fans observed a moment of silence for Portugal and Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, whose sudden passing weighed heavily on everyone.

Bayern Munich began with an aggressive approach, focusing their attack on PSG’s left flank with Michael Olise and Konrad Laimer pressing Nuno Mendes. PSG responded well through Achraf Hakimi’s explosive runs, almost taking the lead in the 19th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s shot hit the side netting. At the other end, Olise had his chance but was denied by an incredible save from PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The first half saw a couple of key injuries. Josip Stanisic was forced off after an early knock, with Sacha Boey coming on in his place. Harry Kane then missed a golden chance, sending a header wide from close range. Just before halftime, Bayern thought they had the lead when Dayot Upamecano bundled the ball into the net, but it was ruled out for offside. The half ended with concern as Jamal Musiala had to be stretchered off after a collision with Donnarumma.

The second half carried the same high intensity, with PSG’s young star Désiré Doué opening the scoring in the 79th minute. Doué capitalized on a mistake by Kane to fire past Bayern’s Manuel Neuer at his near post.

In a dramatic turn of events, PSG were reduced to just nine men. Willian Pacho was sent off for a reckless challenge on Leon Goretzka, followed by Lucas Hernandez who received a red card for an elbow to the face. Despite their numerical disadvantage, PSG doubled their lead through Ousmane Dembélé, who finished off a brilliant counterattack.

Bayern’s hopes were dashed when a late penalty appeal was overturned by VAR, confirming PSG’s 2-0 win. They now await the winner of the Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund clash in the semi-finals.
