President Ruto described Ukambani residents as “the best people” during his visit to Kitui County. He vowed that the region would no longer be sidelined in national development and governance.

President William Ruto has lauded the people of Ukambani, describing them as hardworking, resilient, and deserving of national recognition. Speaking in Kitui County on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Ruto expressed admiration for the region, saying it had been politically misled for years.

“Sikizeni nyinyi watu wa Ukambani… Hi Ukambani imechezewa karata ya pata potea siku mingi. The people of Ukambani are the best. Kama kuna watu watatangulia mbinguni ni watu wa Ukambani,” said Ruto.

The President’s remarks were met with applause from locals who turned up for his development tour of the area.

Ruto acknowledged that Ukambani had long been neglected but assured residents that his administration would prioritise the region’s development.

“Hii Ukambani haiwezi kuchezewa karata ya pata potea ya kuenda upinzani. Kwa mapenzi ya Mungu, hii Ukambani tunatengeneza serikali 2027 pamoja na nyinyi,” he added.

He promised that Ukambani would be part of national planning and decision-making processes, ensuring its people benefit from upcoming government projects.

The President’s message carried a spiritual tone as he described the people of Ukambani as “first in line for heaven,” symbolising their perseverance and moral strength. His words aimed to bridge regional divisions and foster a sense of unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ruto’s visit, which included inspecting and handing over the Kamuwongo Fresh Produce Market in Mwingi North, reflected his administration’s ongoing focus on regional empowerment and equitable development.

President Ruto’s praise and promises to the Ukambani region signal his intent to strengthen political ties and promote inclusive growth across all regions as Kenya heads toward the 2027 elections.
