Due to security concerns, Kenya has approved a visa-free policy for African nations, except Somalia and Libya. African visitors can stay for up to two months; EAC nationals can stay for six months under free movement protocols. The government will introduce an expedited Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system for faster travel approvals. Kenya's Cabinet has approved a groundbreaking visa-free travel policy for most African countries. The decision is part of efforts to promote regional integration, open skies, and boost the tourism sector. Visa-Free Access and Stay Duration Under the new policy, African visitors can stay in Kenya for up to two months. However, nationals from East African Community (EAC) member states will continue enjoying six-month stays as stipulated by the EAC free movement protocols. Exemptions for Security Reasons Somalia and Libya are excluded from the visa-free arrangement, with the government citing security concerns for the exemption. Streamlined Travel Through the eTA System Kenya plans to introduce an expedited Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system to enhance efficiency. Travelers will benefit from near-instant approvals, with processing capped at 72 hours, depending on operational capacity. Impact on Regional Relations This policy underscores Kenya’s commitment to fostering closer ties with other African nations while addressing security and operational concerns. The streamlined travel process is expected to significantly improve the ease of doing business and tourism. Kenya's visa-free initiative marks a significant step toward regional cooperation and economic growth, reflecting its dedication to positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s integration efforts.
