Nigerian Pastor Omotoso detained: According to police commissioner Gen Fannie Masemola, Omotoso was arrested on Saturday morning,, and the charges center on a breach of the Immigration Act.
“Police and Department of Home Affairs members arrested Omotoso.
Masemola added, “He will surely show up in court on Monday,, and everyone will know what charges he is facing, but it is immigration-related issues.”
Masemola said the department would go into greater detail on the charges.
Arrested in April 2017, Omotoso and his co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho were facing allegations of rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking allegedly committed in the Eastern Cape where Omotoso presided over a church in Gqeberha.
Following a protracted trial, last month the Gqeberha High Court cleared the accused.
The high court judge Irma Schoeman declared in her decision that the state had not been able to establish its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
“In my opinion, the accused’s explanations are unlikely, and I don’t subjectively believe them.”
