Senate Braces for Tense Vote as GOP Faces Internal Spli.

Billionaire Elon Musk has sharply criticized a newly passed debt ceiling bill, describing it as an “outrageous, pork-filled” package that risks bankrupting the country. In a fiery series of posts, Musk didn’t hold back, slamming lawmakers who backed the bill and claiming it undoes years of financial restraint.

“Shame on those who voted for it,” he posted.

“This bill is a disgusting abomination.”

The bill, which passed the House by just one vote — 215 to 214 — includes the extension of Trump-era tax cuts and billions in funding for border wall construction. But critics say the benefits come at a serious cost, with huge cuts to social safety nets.

Bill Sparks GOP Infighting and Public Backlash

Only two Republican lawmakers — Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson — voted against the measure, joining Democrats in their opposition. The bill now heads to the Senate, where Republicans hold a narrow edge, and tensions are already building.

Musk, who once led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump, claimed the plan reverses the cost-cutting efforts his team worked hard to implement.

“A bill can be big or beautiful — not both,” Musk told CBS in a follow-up interview.

His comments have deepened rifts within the Republican Party. Senator Rand Paul echoed Musk’s stance, calling the legislation a “$5 trillion mistake.”

However, President Donald Trump dismissed Paul’s concerns and doubled down in support of the bill, labeling it a “BIG GROWTH BILL.”

Critics Slam Cuts to Key Services

Aside from the political drama, many Americans are reacting to the bill’s contents. It includes:

A $698 billion cut from Medicaid

$267 billion slashed from food aid programs

Supporters argue the plan boosts border security and promotes economic growth. But opponents warn the human cost may be too high — and say the long-term impact on low-income communities and public health will be devastating.

As the Senate prepares to vote, the outcome could reshape party unity and test public confidence in the GOP’s financial agenda.
