Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera files a Ksh60 million defamation suit against three bloggers. They falsely linked him to the death of Munyuki High School Principal Simon Isiaho Shange.

Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Daraja Nabwera has filed a Ksh60 million defamation suit against three bloggers accused of linking him to the death of Munyuki High School Principal Simon Isiaho Shange.

Through lawyer Danstan Omari, Nabwera is demanding Ksh20 million in damages from each of the defendants, Peter Amunga, George Opunga Tamata, and Simon Asievela, over what he describes as a deliberate smear campaign aimed at damaging his reputation.

According to court documents, the three bloggers allegedly published false and defamatory content between October 3 and 8, 2025, on social media platforms including Kakamega Post, Malava Online, and Lugari Watchdog.

The posts reportedly identified him by name and title, referring to him as “MP Nabwera” and “MP for Lugari,” while accusing him of being linked to the principal’s death.

“The statements were false, malicious, and intended to portray me as a criminal. They have caused immense harm to my reputation and leadership standing,” Nabwera stated in his affidavit.

The MP is seeking restraining orders to bar the bloggers and their associates from publishing or sharing any further defamatory material against him.

His lawyer cited Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, which criminalises the deliberate publication of false information intended to harm another person’s reputation.

Omari told the court that the matter was filed under a certificate of urgency due to the serious reputational damage caused by the viral posts. He added that demand letters had been issued to the bloggers requiring them to delete the content and issue public apologies within 12 hours, but they failed to comply.

The defamation suit comes amid ongoing public concern over the death of Principal Simon Isiaho Shange, whose body was found in River Kipkaren on November 8, 2025, days after a road accident along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway.

Police have launched investigations to determine whether foul play was involved.

Community leaders have since urged calm as investigations continue. KNUT Kakamega East Branch Secretary Patrick Chungani condemned the harassment of teachers, saying:

“Teachers are not punching bags, we demand justice and respect for their dignity.”

The case will be mentioned on November 12, 2025, before the Chief Magistrate at the Milimani Commercial Court.
