Media personality Mkamburi Chigogo has sparked discussion over the reported Ksh3.5 million budget for the burial of gospel singer Betty Bayo, scheduled for November 19, 2025.
Chigogo expressed frustration over the expense, asking why such funds are used after death when there had been struggles to raise money during the singer’s illness.
“3.5 mics for the burial? I keep saying let’s use resources when people are alive. When she was looking for money for admission, haikua! Waaaahhh, life is a puzzle,” she said.
Gospel artist Sir James, part of the burial organising team, explained that the high budget is due to the scale and logistics required to give Betty Bayo a proper farewell.
“There are so many things to be done. The main thing is to eulogise Betty. This will be a big burial that requires a lot of money. We were told by the chairman that we require not less than 3.5 million. So we are raising funds from friends and artists,” he said.
Chigogo’s comments reflect a wider concern in society: supporting loved ones while they are alive versus spending lavishly on funerals. Many believe that resources should be prioritised to help during illness rather than after death.

Betty Bayo passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 1:03 pm, as confirmed by a family representative speaking on behalf of her husband, Hiram Gitau.
