Manchester United, who have forgotten their defeat since the appointment of manager Michael Carrick, have achieved a thrilling comeback against Crystal Palace and climbed to 3rd place in the league.
Manchester United, led by manager Michael Carrick, won 2-1 in the home match against Crystal Palace in the 28th round of the 2025-2026 English Premier League (PL) held at Old Trafford in Manchester, England at 11:00 PM on the 1st (Korean time), thanks to consecutive goals from Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Seszko.
With this victory, Manchester United extended their remarkable unbeaten run of six wins and one draw since Carrick took over. With 51 points (14 wins, nine draws, and five losses), they leapfrogged Aston Villa on goal difference to third place in the league.
Their mid-table struggles from the beginning of the season are a distant memory, and they now have their sights set on more than just a Champions League spot.
The match was shaky from the start. Just four minutes into the first half, Brendan Johnson’s cross from a Palace corner kick was headed in by Maxence Lacroix, who found the back of the net. It was a painful error by Lenny Yoro, who missed the mark.
To make matters worse, key fullback Luke Shaw suffered a muscle injury in the 23rd minute, forcing Nusair Mazraoui to be brought on as a last-ditch effort.
But Carrick’s Manchester United, though shaken, never crumbled. Having warmed up with a flurry of attacks from Fernandes and Mboemo in the final minutes of the first half, Manchester United emerged as a completely different team in the second half.
The prelude to the reversal came in the seventh minute of the second half. Matheus Cunha was brought down after drawing a foul from Lacroix in the penalty area. The VAR review gave Manchester United the best-case scenario.
As soon as the penalty was awarded, Lacroix, the man who had scored the opening goal, was shown a red card. Captain Fernandes calmly took the kick, slotting it home to level the score at 1-1.
Riding high on the momentum, Manchester United secured the winning goal in the 19th minute of the second half. Fernandes’s cross from the right flank was met by a powerful header from the “divine” Sesko, completing the dramatic comeback.
With a numerical advantage, Manchester United pressed on, with Casemiro and Amad Diallo constantly pounding on Palace’s goal.
Although Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s string of saves against his former team prevented further goals, Manchester United comfortably held onto their one-goal lead until the end, securing all three points. Fans are eager to see how far Manchester United can push forward, turning a crisis into an opportunity.
