Liverpool honoured Diogo Jota with a moving tribute at Anfield.

Liverpool fans paid their respects before the season opener against Bournemouth. The stadium observed a minute of silence, and a giant mosaic was displayed with the brothers’ initials, shirt numbers, and the Portuguese flag. A banner on The Kop read:

“Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda – Anfield will always be your home. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Liverpool confirmed that Jota’s number 20 shirt has been permanently retired. The club also announced plans to build a sculpture outside Anfield in his memory. For the rest of the season, the words “Forever 20” will appear on Liverpool shirts and matchday jackets.

Manager Arne Slot said in his programme notes that the club would continue to stand with Jota’s family:

“The tributes that have been paid throughout the football world, and especially within the LFC community, have been truly special. Tonight we come together once more to show his family that they will always have our love and support.”

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020. He went on to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup in five years with the club, leaving behind unforgettable memories for fans.
