Parents and teachers across Kenya have been thrown into confusion after viral social media claims suggested that the country could be reverting to the 8-4-4 education system.
However, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has now addressed the reports, urging the public to ignore misleading information circulating online.
The controversy began after a blogger alleged that the 2025 KPSEA results slip included numerical percentage scores similar to those used under the 8-4-4 model.
The claims further suggested that subjects such as Mathematics and English were graded using performance ratings resembling the old system fueling speculation that the government may be slowly abandoning the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
KNEC Warns Against Fake Education Reports
In its response, KNEC cautioned parents, teachers, and learners against relying on unverified reports regarding the 2025 KPSEA results.
The council emphasized that false information can easily mislead candidates and undermine public confidence in the education system.
The examination body maintained that any official communication regarding CBC, KPSEA results, or changes to Kenya’s education model will be released through proper and verified channels.
Is Kenya Returning to 8-4-4?
The CBC system was introduced to replace 8-4-4, focusing more on skills development, talent nurturing, and continuous learner assessment rather than high-stakes final exams.
Since its rollout, the curriculum has sparked heated debate among stakeholders with some parents calling for reforms, while others support its learner-centered approach.
Despite ongoing criticism, there has been no official announcement confirming a return to the 8-4-4 system.
Parents Urged to Stay Calm
Education experts are advising parents not to panic over online claims.
For now, CBC remains Kenya’s official education framework, and KPSEA assessments continue to follow the structure set by the Ministry of Education.
The big question remains: Should Kenya stick with CBC or revert to 8-4-4? Share your thoughts.
