Kenyans Blast Kasmuel as He Tries to Defend Himself
Kasmuel Mcoure, the vocal Gen Z activist, is at the centre of yet another heated debate after a pointed statement aimed at those criticizing him. In his remarks, he lashed out at his detractors, calling them “pretenders” who have now switched sides and are disguising themselves as revolutionaries, despite having supported the very political figures they now want out.
“You campaign for a rogue government, saying things like ‘even if he’s a thief, he’s ours,’ when you took money to sell us this government and pulled the tribal cards,” he said, accusing some of using financial incentives as their main motivator. He emphasized that during the last elections, he was only aligned with Reuben Ki game and had no association with the current regime.
He further argued that many of those who criticize him today are the same individuals who benefitted from supporting the very government they now seek to oust, leaping from one political faction to another every election season. “They don’t believe there are people who can think and act without monetary motivation,” he stated. He reiterated that his actions are driven by what is best for Kenya and its people, and not for personal benefit.
The backlash from Kenyans came fast and hard. Many took to social media to call out Kasmuel, accusing him of trying to redeem his image amidst mounting distrust. “There’s no amount of self-sanitization that will make you right, Kasmuel,” one user wrote. Another added, “The more you talk, the more you prove that we mistook you for a revolutionary.”
Despite the criticism, he maintained his stance, asserting his right to engage in the country’s political discourse in a way that aligns with his values. As tensions rise, it’s evident that the activist’s relationship with his supporters is becoming increasingly strained.
Kasmuel came under fire for his remarks during a public gathering
The activist came under fire for his remarks during a public gathering where Kenyans had convened to express their views on the proposed impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During the event, McOure, known for his vocal activism, called for the ouster of Gachagua. However, his decision to focus solely on Gachagua and not include President William Ruto in his call for removal sparked outrage among a section of the public.
Many had expected McOure to push for the impeachment of both the Deputy President and his boss, President Ruto, accusing him of failing to address the broader governance issues under the current administration.
Adding to the controversy, McOure was criticized for remaining silent on the violence that erupted during the event. Earlier, another activist, Morara Kebaso, had been assaulted by individuals in the auditorium just moments before McOure took the stage.
His failure to condemn the attack drew sharp condemnation from many who believed he should have used his platform to speak out against the violence.
In response to the backlash, McOure sought to clarify his position. Speaking after the event, he defended his focus on Gachagua, stating that his comments were in line with the dominant sentiment at the Bomas forum.
“The majority of the people at Bomas were there concerning the tabled motion of ‘Gachagua must go.’ I went there with that singularity of purpose, and I hope we achieve it,” McOure explained.
He also refuted claims that his stance represented a betrayal of the broader movement calling for governance reforms in Kenya. “My principles are not, and will never be, compromised to betray the clamour for governance change advanced by the youth,” he stated.
McOure further emphasized his commitment to advocating for the common good, regardless of personal consequences. “If this will cost me popularity, so be it. If it will cost me work, so be it. If it will cost me my life, so be it. I shall continue to speak truth to power while advocating for a stable Kenya,” he vowed.
