Athletics Kenya, Nairobi chairman Barnaba Korir, says Team Kenya is ready for Tokyo 2025.
Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi branch boss Barnaba Korir has voiced full confidence that Kenya’s team is primed for a big showing at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He noted that athletes had put in the work needed to shine and hinted that Kenya could even surpass the ten medals won in Budapest.
Korir confirmed that travel plans have been finalised. To ensure a smooth transition, the team will travel in two batches so that athletes have ample time to settle. He also reassured Kenyans that all athletes had undergone several doping tests, clearing any doubts about compliance.
AK unveiled a 58-member squad after rigorous trials, featuring a blend of familiar names and fresh faces. Seasoned medal contenders are joined by newcomers like Faith Cherotich, Phanuel Koech, and Edmund Serem. Officials say this balance of youth and experience strengthens Kenya’s medal hopes across multiple events.
The federation has finalised training camps and specialised tune-ups to sharpen form ahead of competition. Leaders emphasised that readiness goes beyond talent; travel, housing, and training facilities have been secured to ensure athletes arrive in peak condition.
World-beaters like Faith Kipyegon headline the squad, and expectations are high for more podium finishes. Korir urged Kenyans to support the team, stressing that national backing boosts morale on the world stage.
As the first group departs for Japan this week, the athletics community will keenly watch whether this blend of experience and youth can deliver another unforgettable campaign for Kenya.
