
Kenya government has warned citizens in the Middle East to exercise extreme caution as military tensions escalate in the region. Meanwhile, Kenya Airways has suspended flights to parts of the United Arab Emirates following widespread airspace closures linked to the conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States.
Kenya Airways has temporarily halted all flights to Dubai and Sharjah after authorities in the United Arab Emirates introduced airspace restrictions due to the growing military crisis in the Middle East.
In a statement, the national carrier confirmed cancellation of both passenger and cargo flights, urging travellers to regularly check its official website or contact customer service for real-time updates.
The move comes amid rising instability in the region following joint U.S. and Israeli military actions targeting Iranian sites.
Several countries have since shut down their airspace entirely. Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar are among those affected, triggering major disruptions in global travel.
Major transit hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi are experiencing heavy congestion, leaving thousands of travellers stranded or facing unexpected delays.
Other international airlines have also adjusted operations. Qatar Airways has paused flights to and from Doha, while several European and Asian carriers have rerouted aircraft to avoid restricted airspace.
Airlines say passenger safety remains their top priority as the situation continues to evolve.
Back home, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei expressed deep concern over the developments. He urged Kenyans living and working in the Middle East to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and avoid high-risk areas.
The escalation follows pre-emptive strikes by Israel on Iranian targets, raising fears of a broader regional conflict. Missile alerts have reportedly been triggered in multiple areas, further heightening tensions.
With thousands of Kenyans working across the Gulf region, the unfolding crisis is being closely monitored by authorities in Nairobi.
For now, travellers are advised to confirm flight schedules before heading to the airport as further cancellations or rerouting remain possible.
