Iran Responds to Israel Following US Attack
A significant escalation occurred early Sunday as Iran executed a large-scale missile attack aimed at various locations throughout Israel in retaliation for a US strike on its nuclear facilities.
Iran fired a minimum of 40 missiles, targeting places such as Haifa, Tel Aviv, and other areas in Israel’s coastal and central regions.
The Israeli public broadcaster KAN indicated that Iranian missiles impacted at least 10 distinct sites within the nation.
Israeli Channel 14 confirmed that five Iranian missiles struck Israeli territory—three near Haifa and two in central Israel—while Channel 12 noted “an unusual event” in Haifa accompanied by several explosions.
Alarms were activated across northern and central Israel, including Haifa, where no prior alerts had been issued during earlier attacks.
According to *Yedioth Ahronoth*, substantial structural damage was reported in Haifa, with additional destruction noted in the Shephelah region and the Dan Bloc, which encompasses Tel Aviv and its surrounding suburbs.
A building in Greater Tel Aviv sustained direct hits, and numerous structures along the coast were demolished due to the Iranian missile strikes, as stated by KAN.
The Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom disclosed that its teams responded to various impact sites. They initially reported 11 injuries, one of which was classified as moderate.
Later reports from Channel 13 indicated an increase in injuries to 16; Yedioth Ahronoth confirmed at least 23 casualties overall, primarily minor injuries, with one individual remaining in moderate condition.
Details on the Iranian Assault
An official spokesperson for the Iranian military operation Al-Waad Al-Sadiq 3 (True Promise 3) declared that the missile strikes targeted Ben Gurion Airport along with biological research centers and Israeli command facilities.
In retaliation, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee acknowledged that the Israeli Air Force conducted counterstrikes against Iranian military installations in western Iran.
These retaliatory actions involved targeting missile launchers and Iranian personnel who were reportedly preparing for additional assaults on Israel. Additional launch platforms were also struck shortly thereafter, according to Adraee’s claims.
This latest round of hostilities emerged following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that American forces had executed “very successful” airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites earlier on Sunday.
Trump reportedly authorized military action against Iran after Israel assassinated several prominent Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists last week, according to American media sources.
Following Trump’s statement, it was noted that the Pentagon was repositioning B-2 bombers from an air base located in Missouri toward the Persian Gulf region.
In light of these US strikes, Iran urged the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to denounce US aggression and hold accountable those infringing upon international law.
Conflict commenced on June 13 when Israel performed airstrikes on multiple targets across Iran—including both military and nuclear sites—prompting Tehran’s retaliatory measures.
Israeli officials have reported at least 25 fatalities along with hundreds injured due to ongoing Iranian missile assaults since then. Conversely, according to reports from the Iranian Health Ministry, approximately 430 individuals have died and over 3,500 have been injured because of Israeli attacks.
