Simone Inzaghi has parted ways with Inter Milan after four seasons in charge.
It’s the end of a chapter at Inter Milan. The club has officially confirmed the departure of head coach Simone Inzaghi, a move finalized just days after the team suffered a crushing 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
Announced on Tuesday evening, the exit was described as a “mutual agreement” following deep discussions with the club’s top management, including president Giuseppe Marotta. The timing and tone suggest the decision was shaped by recent disappointment in Europe.
Trophies Won, But European Glory Slipped Away
Inzaghi took over in 2021 with hopes of continuing the success left behind by Antonio Conte. Over the next four years, he guided the team to six domestic trophies—including a Serie A title, two Coppa Italia wins, and three Supercoppa triumphs.
While his trophy cabinet grew, it was his Champions League journey that left fans divided. Inter reached the final twice under his leadership—losing narrowly to Manchester City in 2023, and then suffering a heavy defeat to PSG in 2025. The latter result, many believe, pushed the club to rethink its direction.
“I’ve given my all to this club, and now it’s time to say goodbye,” Inzaghi said in an emotional farewell. “To the Nerazzurri fans—thank you for believing in me, through the good and the tough moments.”
His exit has already sparked rumors linking him with Al-Hilal, a top Saudi Arabian club preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S.—the same competition Inter will attend without their former boss. The possibility of a showdown between Inzaghi and his old squad adds drama to the upcoming global event.
A Tough Goodbye and Uncertain Future
Giuseppe Marotta, Inter’s president, expressed respect for the outgoing coach, calling him “a true professional” who led with honesty and heart.
“Simone leaves behind a strong legacy. We may have parted ways, but we do so with full respect,” said Marotta.
Despite his domestic success, Inzaghi’s failure to deliver the Champions League and falling just one point short of the 2024/25 Serie A title cost him dearly. For fans, the recent PSG humiliation now overshadows much of his achievements.
As Inter Milan turn the page, the club faces the challenge of appointing a new head coach capable of building on the current foundation—but also conquering Europe at last.
The Inzaghi era brought silverware and stability, but the next chapter must aim even higher.
