IEBC and Media Council of Kenya (MCK) sign Memorandum of Understanding.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has entered into a formal partnership with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, HSC, described the agreement as a milestone that will improve cooperation between the two institutions ahead of future elections.

According to the Commission, the MoU will provide a framework for: Training journalists on electoral processes. Building the capacity of IEBC staff on media relations. Accrediting journalists for election coverage. Monitoring media content to curb hate speech, ethnic incitement, and harassment. Establishing information hubs for accurate voter information.

These measures, IEBC says, are designed to empower voters and strengthen transparency.

Dr. Alutalala Mukhwana, Commissioner and Chairperson of the Voter Education, Partnerships, Communications, and Stakeholder Engagement Committee, thanked the Media Council for its support.

“The Chairperson has always insisted on an open-door policy, and I want to assure you that we are ready to engage and consult at any time, because everything we do is for the nation,” said Dr. Mukhwana.

David Omwoyo Omwoyo, MBS, CEO of the Media Council of Kenya, welcomed the partnership, calling it a timely step in strengthening public trust.

He stressed that credible media coverage is key to sustaining confidence in the IEBC, adding that every Kenyan relies on the Commission to deliver peaceful and credible elections.
