Huge Blow to Grade 10 Learners As they Face a Rough Start, Textbooks & Teachers Reportedly in Short Supply

Grade 10 learners in our area are set to start school amid significant challenges, with many facing a shortage of textbooks and teachers.

According to local education officials, the shortage of textbooks is expected to hinder the smooth transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“The lack of textbooks and teachers will negatively impact the quality of education,” said a concerned parent. The Teacher Service Commission confirms a shortage of qualified teachers, particularly in STEM subjects.

As schools scramble to find solutions, learners are anxious about their academic future. “We want to learn, but it’s hard without books and proper teachers,” said a Grade 10 student.

Local stakeholders are calling on the government to address these gaps urgently to ensure a successful rollout of CBC. The situation remains uncertain as schools prepare to reopen on January 16, 2026.

Key Issues:

  •  Textbook shortage affecting Grade 10 learners
  •  Shortage of qualified teachers, especially in STEM subjects
  • Concerns over CBC rollout and education quality.

The government should move at a very high speed solve this issues so as to ensure a smooth transition to the new education system which they claim is going to move Kenya to the next level.
