Photographers to pay Ksh10,000 for access during KSSSA and FEASSSA events. Business vendors to be charged Ksh2,000; tender documents to cost Ksh1,000. KSSSA Games set for July 24 – August 2; FEASSSA from August 3 – 23 in Kakamega. County’s schools excelled in regional qualifiers, earning multiple national slots.** New Charges Spark Debate Ahead of Major School Sports Events The Western Region Director of Education has introduced new access and business charges for photographers and vendors ahead of the much-anticipated KSSSA National Term 2 Games and the FEASSSA Championships scheduled to take place in Kakamega County. Photographers will now be required to pay Ksh10,000 to take pictures and videos during the competitions. Vendors wishing to operate on-site will be charged Ksh2,000, while tender document fees have been set at Ksh1,000. These measures are reportedly aimed at regulating commercial activities and raising funds to support the logistics of hosting the two major events. Kakamega to Host National and Regional Championships Kakamega will be the centre of attention as it hosts two major school sporting events: KSSSA National Term 2 Games: 🗓️ July 24 – August 2 🏟️ Various venues in Kakamega County FEASSSA Championships: 🗓️ August 3 – August 23 🌍 Featuring teams from across East Africa This will mark the first time Kenya hosts the FEASSSA Games since 2016, when Eldoret was the venue. Why Kakamega Was Chosen The Western region’s strong showing in recent KSSSA competitions played a big role in securing hosting rights. During the Term 2 Western Region Games held earlier this month at Bukhungu Stadium, schools from Kakamega produced six qualifying teams for the national level. Standout Performances by Kakamega Schools Musingu High School – Boys’ Football Champions (defeated Ebwali 2-0) Butere Girls – Retained Girls’ Football Title St. Peter’s Mumias & Koyonzo Boys – Top teams in Boys’ Rugby Mwira Girls & Egi Girls – Qualified in Girls’ Rugby Basketball – Butere Girls & St. Peter’s Mumias secured national spots Volleyball – Malava Boys & Bishop Sulumeti Lugari Girls claimed victories Netball – Mukuyu Secondary School impressed with strong showing The dual hosting of KSSSA and FEASSSA Games is expected to boost local economy and spotlight young talent, though the newly introduced charges have sparked mixed reactions from stakeholders.
