German police arrest: German news agency dpa said Tuesday that a suspect who claimed to have attacked and injured five persons outside a bar in the western German city of Bielefeld was captured following almost two days of searching.
Herbert Reul, the state interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, told dpa, following the arrest of a man late Monday evening in the western town of Heiligenhaus near Düsseldorf, “The detailed work paid off, and we were able to arrest the surprised perpetrator.”
Police claim that the suspect is a 35-year-old Syrian residing in Germany.
Early Sunday, a suspect carrying a sharp item outside a club in downtown Bielefeld attacked five males between 22 and 27—four of them suffered severe injuries.
Reul claimed that, with all the tools at hand, “after the shocking crime in Bielefeld,” detectives had “picked up and pursued every last lead on the perpetrator.”
The minister said, “Now we need responses as to what motive led the perpetrator to commit the crime.”
