For many years, Michael Kato from Mukono District, Uganda, felt completely invisible at his workplace. He was known as a hardworking and disciplined employee who never missed deadlines. Michael arrived early every morning, handled tasks others avoided, and often stayed late to ensure everything ran smoothly. His supervisors relied on him heavily, yet when it came to recognition, his name was never mentioned. Promotions passed him by, and salary reviews never favoured him, no matter how much effort he put in.
What hurt Michael the most was watching colleagues he had helped and even trained rise above him. Some were promoted within a year, while he remained in the same position for over six years. Each announcement of promotions felt like a personal blow. At home, financial pressure increased, and his family began questioning why his career seemed stuck.
