Former Morgue Attendant Reveals Dark Experiences in Eldoret Job

A man from Eldoret narrates his disturbing experience working in a private morgue. He claims he was introduced to the job by relatives without knowing what it involved.

A man identifying himself as Samaritan 254 has shared his troubling experience after working briefly as an undertaker in a privately owned morgue in Eldoret town.

He says he got the job through an aunt who introduced him to the facility’s owners, not knowing exactly what kind of work awaited him.

“I didn’t even know what I was getting into,” he said in his narration, adding that he was only told it was general work.

On his first day, Samaritan says he was overwhelmed by what he saw at the morgue. The sight of bodies being prepared for storage made him sick and frightened.

“I started feeling dizzy. I even vomited. It was something I had never imagined I would see up close,” he recalled.

He claims that before beginning the work, he was offered something to smoke by colleagues, which he believes might have been laced with other substances.

Samaritan narrates that what shocked him most was the unethical behaviour he witnessed from some of his coworkers during night shifts.

He said he was disturbed by what he saw and could not bring himself to continue working there for long.

“I realised many people doing such work lose touch with reality because of what they see daily. Some end up doing things that are morally and mentally wrong,” he said.

Samaritan has since left the job and is calling for more oversight in private morgues, where workers often suffer trauma and lack proper psychological support.

“People working in morgues need counseling and supervision. Some lose their sanity because of the pressure and what they handle every day,” he added.

He urged the government to ensure morgue attendants are trained and monitored to prevent unethical behaviour and to protect both the dead and the living.
