Flamboyant Kenyan Businessman Evans Gor Semelang’o Arrested in Dubai
Former Youth Enterprise Development Fund chairman and flamboyant city businessman, Evans Gor Semelang’o, has reportedly been arrested in Dubai over alleged involvement in money laundering activities.
According to sources quoted by outspoken blogger Aoko Otieno, Semelang’o was allegedly picked up by officers from Dubai’s Financial Crimes Unit about three weeks ago in what is said to have been an intelligence-led operation.
“Gor Semelango ako Dubai prison. Since three weeks ago. If my sources are accurate. Money laundering,” Aoko wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
A quick look at Semelang’o’s Instagram account shows that his last post was on October 2, after which he suddenly went silent — an unusual move for a man known for his constant online updates showcasing his glamorous lifestyle, luxury cars, and lavish parties.
His prolonged silence has raised eyebrows among his followers and business associates, with many noting that he was noticeably absent from the funeral of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, despite his close relationship with the Odinga family.
Semelang’o, who has long been associated with high-end events, celebrity circles, and philanthropy, rose to public prominence after his appointment as Chairman of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, a position he held before venturing fully into private business and entertainment sponsorship.
Meanwhile Kenyan lawyer Donald B. Kipkorir has appealed for government help after revealing that his friend, Evans Gor Semelang’o, has been detained in Dubai.
Kipkorir, a well-known advocate and political insider, said the detention stems from a business dispute that has wrongly turned into a criminal case under the UAE’s strict laws.
Posting on X, Kipkorir explained that his ‘BFF’ was detained following a disagreement with a Kenyan woman over a nightclub business.
The lawyer called on Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Korir Sing’oei, to use diplomatic channels to help resolve the issue quickly.
