The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel has officially unveiled a list of 11 candidates shortlisted for the chairperson position. The announcement, made on Friday, March 14, confirmed that the interview process will take place over three days, beginning on Monday, March 24, and concluding on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Interview Schedule and Shortlisted Candidates
The candidates selected for the crucial electoral body position include former East Africa Court of Justice judge Charles Ayako Nyachae, former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Atieno Amadi, as well as Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan, Edward Katama Negywa, Jacob Ngwiele Muvengei, and Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo. Others in the race are Lilian Wanjiku Manegene, Robert Akumu Asembo, Saul Simiyu Wasilwa, Erastus Ethekon, and Francis Kissinger.
According to the selection panel, interviews will be conducted in phases. On Monday, March 24, the panel will assess Ramadhan, Amadi, Nyachae, and Negywa. The second group, scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, includes Ethekon, Kissinger, Muvengei, and Masinde-Mdivo. The final round of interviews on Wednesday, March 26, will see Manegene, Asembo, and Wasilwa take their turn before the panel. The sessions will run from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM each day.
Requirements for the Candidates
All shortlisted candidates have been instructed to present their original national identification cards or passports, alongside academic testimonials and certificates. Additionally, they are required to provide clearance certificates from various institutions, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Commission for University Education (CUE), and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
Public Participation in the Selection Process
The selection panel has also encouraged members of the public to submit any relevant information regarding the shortlisted applicants before the final decision is made. This move aims to ensure transparency and integrity in the recruitment process.
