Emotional Sonko Breaks Silence, Confronts Son-in-Law: “A Man Who I Feed Cannot Beat My Daughter”

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has set social media ablaze after releasing an emotional message revealing that his daughter, Salma, has been facing distress in her marriage a situation he described as painful, unacceptable, and deeply troubling for any parent.

Sonko, long known for his outspoken personality and unwavering loyalty to his family, expressed heartbreak over the alleged mistreatment. In a statement that has quickly trended online, he condemned the behaviour of any man who would accept love and support from a family while causing harm to one of its own.

According to Sonko, “a man who eats from his father-in-law’s plate yet raises his hand against the daughter” is acting out of insecurity and moral failure. His remarks captured the attention of thousands, with many Kenyans resonating with his frustration and protective instincts as a father.

The former governor urged the public to take gender-based violence (GBV) seriously, warning against normalising abuse within marriage. He emphasized that no form of violence should be excused simply because it happens behind closed doors.

The message triggered a nationwide discussion on the rising cases of domestic violence, particularly affecting women. Many Kenyans expressed solidarity with Salma, praising her strength and encouraging her to prioritise her safety and emotional well-being.

GBV activists also weighed in, noting that when prominent figures speak openly about family struggles, it helps break the silence surrounding domestic abuse. They stressed the importance of improving legal, psychological, and community support for survivors.

As the matter continues to receive public attention, Sonko has reassured his daughter that she is not alone. He affirmed his family’s unwavering support and called for accountability and respect within relationships.

His emotional appeal has become a powerful reminder that GBV remains a serious national issue one that demands collective action, compassion, and zero tolerance.
