EACC Expose Huge Amount of Money Recovered From Traffic Police Officer Arrested Taking Bribes in Murang'a

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested two traffic police officers in Murang’a and Mtwapa towns on December 30, 2025, for allegedly soliciting bribes from motorists recovering huge amount of money from them.

Police Constable Kelvin Mwangi was arrested in Murang’a with Kes 6,450, while his colleague, PC Mathew Osike, escaped.

In Mtwapa, Police Corporal Haroun Mazera was arrested with Kes 13,750. The EACC operation followed public complaints about rampant bribery by traffic officers along major highways.

The suspects were released on cash bail pending investigations.

Meanwhile, DCI boss Amin said that corrupt police officers will be dealt with by the law, adding that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations does not tolerate corruption.

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, has, on the other hand, said that the National Police Service is working with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, along with the National Transport and Safety Authority, to curb road accidents in the country.

Kanja also called on Kenyans to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, acknowledging the deaths of over 50 Kenyans killed in separate road accidents in the month of December, adding that police have been deployed to enforce road rules and regulations.
