Duale Dismisses Claims of SHA Paying Ghost Facilities

Health CS Aden Duale has denied reports that the Social Health Authority (SHA) sent funds to non-existent hospitals.

Speaking on Tuesday, Duale confirmed that genuine whistleblowers continue to help auditors track irregularities. He pointed out that facilities in Mandera, Homa Bay, Kisii, Wajir, Nairobi, Bungoma, and Kisumu counties had already faced regulatory action.

He stressed the ministry’s focus is on stopping fraud while delivering free, affordable, and accessible healthcare.

Sh9 billion already paid for primary healthcare.

Sh7.7 billion + Sh1.3 billion still waiting for Treasury release.

Recent claims said Sh20m was sent to a “ghost” hospital in Homa Bay. SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi clarified that Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital has existed since the 1970s. Its account still carries the old name “Nyandiwa Dispensary,” which is confusing. Another similarly named facility in Kasipul has no SHA account.

She explained that the Sh19,998,720 was legitimate and followed strict verification rules. She dismissed online photos of an abandoned building as unrelated to SHA.

Mwangangi assured that all SHA payments go through rigorous checks to protect public funds.
