Deputy President Kithure Kindiki sparked widespread concern on Monday, December 22, 2025, after he was forced to withdraw from a high-profile public function in Baringo County due to a sudden illness.

The Deputy President had graced the annual Kimalel Goat Auction, one of the North Rift’s most significant economic and cultural gatherings, when he reportedly began feeling unwell mid-programme. Moments later, his aides swiftly escorted him from the venue, prompting a brief pause as speculation spread among attendees.

CS Ruku Calms Concerns

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku quickly moved to calm the crowd, confirming that Kindiki had experienced an unexpected health complication and had been advised by doctors to rest.

“The Deputy President is unwell but stable. There is no cause for panic. He is receiving proper medical care,” Ruku told the gathering, urging Kenyans to keep the DP in their prayers.

Visible Fatigue and Relentless Schedule

Eyewitnesses noted that Kindiki appeared visibly fatigued shortly before leaving the dais, fueling concern among local leaders and residents who had gathered in large numbers. Despite the interruption, the programme resumed under the leadership of other senior government officials, including President William Ruto, who presided over the auction.

Kindiki’s visit was seen as a strong signal of the government’s commitment to livestock farming. Leaders at the auction praised his consistent engagement with grassroots initiatives, describing his recent schedule as relentless.

Ongoing Monitoring

News of his illness spread rapidly on social media, with Kenyans from across the country sending messages of goodwill. While his office is yet to issue a comprehensive official statement on when he will resume full duties, government sources insist the situation is under control and that he is responding well to treatment.
