Kirinyaga: A man fatally stabbed his friend over a KSh 50 debt. Bomet: A mother allegedly beat her two children, killing her nine-year-old daughter
Police in Kirinyaga County have taken into custody a man accused of killing his friend in Mutitu Village, Kirinyaga Central Constituency.
Witnesses reported that the two men, previously close friends, argued over a KSh 50 debt. The disagreement escalated, leading the suspect to grab a knife and stab his companion in the chest.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
In a separate case, a 34-year-old mother, identified as Joan Chepkemoi Rono, was arrested in Bomet County after allegedly beating her two children, resulting in the death of her nine-year-old daughter.
The incident occurred in Taboino Village, Konoin, after the mother accused the children of stealing bananas from a neighbour’s farm. Police reported that she used a wooden rod, causing severe injuries to both children. The children were taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital, where the daughter died shortly after admission.
Her 13-year-old son sustained multiple injuries and is still receiving treatment.
Neighbours expressed shock, describing the mother as previously calm and loving. Local leaders condemned the incident and urged parents to avoid violent disciplinary measures.
Human rights advocates stressed the need to end corporal punishment, offering guidance on non-violent child discipline and urging the public to report early signs of abuse to prevent such tragedies.
